Domestic and Foreign Debt Restructuring in Sri Lanka The 'Status Quo' by Dhanusha pathirana

Updated: May 13

This presentation is intellectually demanding and solely audio-based. However, it's designed with coherence to ensure everyone can grasp the complexities surrounding debt restructuring and the entrenched corruption practices within. These practices unfairly exempt certain individuals from their impact. Moreover, these practices have created an opportunity, albeit through means now legalised in Sri Lanka, for some to profit from the suffering of people who are not at fault for their predicament. Essentially, we, the working class, find ourselves akin to 'modern slaves', stripped of the right to determine how our hard-earned pension savings will be utilised. Most concerning is that if we strive for productivity enhancement as a nation, the government will commit to paying higher interest rates and even compounding interest on our foreign debt. This dire situation will burden future generations for decades to come.
