This proposal, developed through grassroots efforts and expert consultations, underscores the urgent need for Sri Lanka to reduce its reliance on imported fossil fuels like coal and oil for energy production. The country has abundant local resources that can be utilized for sustainable energy alternatives, making this shift both feasible and necessary. Unfortunately, political corruption and negative attitudes have significantly stymied the growth of renewable energy in the nation. This initiative seeks to mobilize grassroots support and increase public demand for renewable energy. By decreasing our dependence on imported fossil fuels, we aim to not only mitigate the adverse effects of economic mismanagement but also prepare our nation for the 'economic storm' anticipated in 2028 due to the restructuring of foreign debt that will surpass our national income.
